Vadodara: A resident doctor of GMERS Medical College and Hospital in Gotri drowned on the outskirts of the city on Monday morning. Dr Darshan Dodiya had gone to the Narmada canal near Bhimpura village with his two friends for an outing when he slipped into the canal and drowned.

The medical college authorities said that the 26-year-old was a native of Khambhat. His body was fished out of the canal and taken to the hospital. “Dodiya was brought dead to the hospital. He was in the third year of his dermatology course,” said Dr Anup Chandnani, superintendent of GMERS Medical College and Hospital.“It was his birthday and he had gone out with two of his friends for an outing. Both his friends are not from our institute,” Chandnani told TOI.Dodiya’s postmortem was conducted at the hospital and his body was handed over to his parents.
