Shivamogga: The 35-year-old tusker that was rescued near the Balehonnur region in Chikkamagaluru district on Sunday was shifted to the Sakrebailu Elephant Camp near Shivamogga. The elephant, reportedly in a state of must and showing signs of aggression, is currently confined in a wooden kraal under the care of Sakrebailu staff. However, the camp is already struggling under the weight of overcrowding; this new addition brings the total elephants at the facility to 24.DCF (Shivamogga wildlife) Prasanna Krishna Patgar said that higher authorities have directed the camp to accommodate the animal temporarily.Meanwhile, former member of the State Wildlife Board Joseph Hoover slammed the department’s handling of the operation, specifically criticising the decision to cut the elephant’s tusks following sedation.
