Srinagar, Feb 23: Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Monday laid the foundation stone of Masjid Bilal at Shah Hamdan Colony in Habak, marking the beginning of construction work on the new mosque amid the holy month of Ramzan.

The ceremony was attended by local residents, ulema, and community members who gathered to witness the occasion and offer prayers for the successful completion of the project. Addressing the gathering, Mirwaiz congratulated the people of the area for what he described as a noble and spiritually rewarding initiative.

Hetermed the construction of a mosque as one of the greatest forms of
Sadaqah Jariyah (continuous charity), emphasising that laying its foundation during the blessed month of Ramzan carries special spiritual significance.

“Ramzan is a month of mercy, forgiveness, and renewal. Just as Ramzan rebuilds our inner selves, the construction of a mosque strengthens the spiritual foundations of a community,” he said.

Mirwaiz also expressed satisfaction that the mosque’s design includes a designated space for women. He noted that providing such a space encourages women’s participation in congregational prayers and religious learning, in accordance with Islamic teachings, and reflects an inclusive approach within the community.

Highlighting the broader role of mosques, he said they are not merely structures of brick and mortar but serve as centers of guidance, unity, and social cohesion.

He prayed for the smooth and timely completion of Masjid Bilal and for the acceptance of the contributions made by all those involved in the project.

The foundation ceremony concluded with collective prayers seeking blessings for the community and the wider society during the holy
month.
