Chandrapur: A leopard cub, rescued in a critical condition from the Khapri area under the Bhadrawati forest range, died while being taken for treatment on Thursday. The cub was found in a weak and distressed state near Ramteke Society within the Chandrapur Ordnance Factory area. Preliminary observations suggested its condition had worsened after ingesting dry leaves and forest litter, possibly due to separation from its mother and a disruption in its natural feeding behaviour.Forest Department officials rushed to the spot upon receiving information and rescued the cub, shifting it to the TTC centre in Chandrapur. However, the cub died before it could receive medical care. A postmortem revealed that dry leaves were lodged in its throat, which is suspected to have caused suffocation. The carcass was subsequently cremated at the TTC centre as per protocol. The entire operation was carried out under the guidance of Forest Range Officer Kiran Dhanakute, with assistance from Field Assistant Vikas Shinde, Forest Guard Sandeep Parve, and other staff.
