Prayagraj: The indefinite sit-in protest on the SRN Hospital premises—demanding national recognition for the martyrdom site of the legendary Kakori case hero, Amar Shaheed Thakur Roshan Singh, and the renaming of Swaroop Rani Nehru Hospital (SRN) after him—continued for the fifth consecutive day on Sunday. The protest is being led by the Mahua Dabar Museum.On the occasion of ‘Kakori Train Action Day,’ students, youth, social activists and citizens extended support to the protest site on Sunday. Citizens paid tribute to Amar Shaheed Thakur Roshan Singh, recalling his sacrifice and his contribution to the freedom movement.The agitators noted that the year 2026 marks the centenary of the historic Kakori Train Action. They argued that on such a historic occasion, the martyrdom site and legacy of Thakur Roshan Singh, a key figure in the Kakori case, should have received national-level recognition. Speakers alleged that historical identity associated with his sacrifice is gradually fading due to governmental neglect.Addressing the protest, Dr Shah Alam Rana, director general of the Mahua Dabar Museum and descendant of a revolutionary martyr, stated that Thakur Roshan Singh made the extreme sacrifice while fighting against British rule at the Malaka Jail in Prayagraj. At that time, Malaka Jail was counted among the most notorious prisons in the United Provinces.He pointed out that while Swaroop Rani Nehru Hospital now stands on that very site of historic sacrifice, the identity of the revolutionary legacy associated with the location is steadily eroding. He declared that this historical neglect would no longer be tolerated.Dr. Rana said that the Mahua Dabar Museum clearly demands that SRN Hospital be immediately renamed after Amar Shaheed Thakur Roshan Singh. He remarked that it is deeply unfortunate that a movement is now required to secure respect for the memories and legacy of the revolutionaries who paved the way for the nation’s independence through their struggle against British rule.Addressing the gathering, Indrajit Maurya said that the very soil where Amar Shaheed Thakur Roshan Singh shed his blood for the country ought to have been honored with his name and recognition. He said had govts of that time named this site after Shaheed Thakur Roshan Singh back then, people would not have needed to take to the streets and launch a protest today.He remarked that Thakur Roshan Singh is a national hero. People across the country should raise their voices in his honor, and doing so is the national duty of every citizen.
