Prayagraj: The Public Works Department (PWD) has drawn up Rs 29.24 crore action plan to strengthen road safety measures and prevent fatal accidents on 106 identified roads in Prayagraj district. The proposal, prepared following a meeting between senior district officials and the PWD principal secretary, has been sent for govt approval.The plan includes interventions under road safety, black spot improvement and the Zero Fatality District (ZFD) programme. The PWD’s provincial division has identified 90 locations involving T-junction and Y-junction improvements, covering 583.980 km of roads at an estimated cost of Rs 16.08 crore.As part of the proposed measures, speed tables, signboards and rumble strips will be installed at selected intersections, T-junctions and Y-junctions to regulate vehicle speeds and reduce the risk of collisions. Other road safety interventions will also be taken up at accident-prone locations identified by the department.Under the ZFD programme, 14 roads covering 243.160 km have been identified, with Rs 12.9 crore proposed to reduce the number of fatalities caused by road accidents to zero or the lowest possible level. The identified routes include MG Marg, Lowther Road, Manda-Baraundha Road, Devghat-Barokhar-Tudiyar Road, Prayagraj Link Road, Sirsa-Koraon-Dramandganj Road, Meja-Kohdar Ghat-Khiri Road, Bharatganj-Pratappur Road, Alopibagh flyover, Lalapur-Imliya-Kanjasa-Bhita Road, Prayagraj-Raebareli Road, Varuna-Janghai-Durgaganj border route and Raebareli-Lucknow Road.The plan was submitted in accordance with directions issued by the state govt. Once the budget is approved, safety equipment and other preventive measures will be installed at the identified points.
