Jaipur: Doctors at Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Hospital performed a rare minimally invasive surgery on a 45-year-old woman to remove hydatid cysts from her liver, spleen and right lung, a combination doctors said is extremely uncommon.Investigations revealed cysts measuring around 10×9cm in the liver, 10×5cm in the spleen and 5×6cm in the lung. Doctors removed the liver and spleen cysts laparoscopically, while the lung cyst was treated through video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS). A c-arm was used to accurately assess the cysts’ position, enabling their safe removal without open surgery. Doctors said the minimally invasive approach reduced pain, blood loss, the risk of infection and recovery time.
