Pratapgarh: A wanted accused, who had escaped from police custody from SRN Hospital Prayagraj where he was taken for DNA sampling in connection with a rape case pending against him on April 21, was injured and arrested following an encounter with the Manikpur police of Patarapgrah late Friday night.The accused sustained bullet injuries in both legs.According to police, Manikpur, SHO, Narendra Singh, along with his team, was conducting routine checking when they received a tip-off that the accused, armed with an illegal weapon, was heading towards Karenti via the Ganga bridge to meet his lawyer.The team set up checking near Karenti tri-junction. When the suspect was spotted and asked to stop, he allegedly opened fire on the police team. Police retaliated in self-defence, during which he was shot in both legs and arrested.The accused– Jalaluddin alias Dabbu (50)– is a resident of Nai Bazar Rahwai under Kunda police station in Pratapgarh. Police recovered a country-made .315 bore pistol, two live cartridges, and one empty shell from his possession.He was first taken to CHC Kalakankar and later referred to the district hospital, where his condition is reported to be stable.
