Ludhiana: High drama unfolded here Monday when a police team attempting to arrest an accused in a minor rape case allegedly came under attack from his family members.The Moti Nagar police said one of the three accused booked in the case was arrested after a scuffle at his residence, where relatives allegedly tried to obstruct the operation. A woman family member is also accused of slapping a police personnel during the confrontation.The accused is among three men booked on July 21 for allegedly abducting a minor girl, intoxicating her with a spiked cold drink and gang-raping her. Police said the accused later abandoned the girl near her house before fleeing.The ASI of Moti Nagar police station said police received information Monday that one of the accused was present at his residence. A team, assisted by local police, reached the house to conduct the arrest.According to police, family members initially refused to open the door and later attempted to stop the officers from taking the accused into custody. Officials alleged that relatives scuffled with the police team, while a woman assaulted a police employee and abused the picket in-charge.Despite the resistance, police managed to arrest the accused. He will be produced before a court to seek police remand. Raids are continuing to nab the remaining two accused, officials said.Police added that local police have been asked to initiate legal action against those who allegedly attacked the police party during the operation.
