Vadodara: A man accused in a rape case escaped from police custody at SSG Hospital in the city on Thursday afternoon while being taken for medical treatment.According to police, Govind Vahoniya was being administered an injection when his handcuffs were removed. He allegedly pushed one of the police guards and fled from the hospital premises.Police personnel chased Vahoniya, who was booked under the POCSO Act, but he managed to leave the hospital building and entered a nearby under-construction structure. Police surrounded the building and made repeated announcements asking him to come out.Cops also deployed a drone to track him, but when Vahoniya did not come out of the building, a team went inside and realised that he had already fled from there. “Search for the accused is still underway,” said D J Patel, Raopura police inspector.
