Ranchi: Authorities of Ranchi University (RU) have opened the admission process for 331 PhD seats across a range of subjects, with applications to be accepted from Sept 1 to 10. In a first, the university will admit research scholars in accordance with the 2022 guidelines of University Grants Commission (UGC).University officials said candidates who have qualified the National Eligibility Test (NET) or Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) can apply. No application fee will be charged, and selection will be made on the basis of interviews conducted by the departments.Zoology offers the highest number of seats at 30, followed by botany with 28, psychology 26, English 25, philosophy 24 and Hindi 19. Chemistry and geography have 18 seats each, physics 16, while commerce, history and political science have 10 each. Mundari has just one seat, the lowest among the subjects, while several other departments have fewer than 10 vacancies.RU has also allowed candidates from four-year undergraduate “honours with research” programmes to apply for PhD admission for the first time. Such applicants must have secured at least 75% marks. The minimum eligibility for candidates holding a postgraduate degree is 55%.According to the admission schedule, the list of candidates shortlisted for interviews will be published on Sept 16. Online grievances can be submitted on Sept 17 and 18, and the final interview list will be released on Sept 21.Department-level interviews will be held from Sept 24 to 29. The university will publish the merit-cum-selection list on Sept 30, completing the month-long admission exercise.
