T’puram: Construction-related development works at the proposed Space Park in Technopark Phase IV continue to remain stalled, with the state govt now stepping in to resolve road access and land-related issues raised by locals.The latest development follows a meeting convened by the govt with the agencies concerned to explore a coordinated solution to the demand for a road connecting the locality and facilitating access to the Space Park.The road-related issue is complicated by the involvement of multiple agencies and ownership of land parcels in the area. Land belonging to Technopark, PWD, the state govt and the National Highway wing under district administration is involved in the proposed road development. As a result, officials have been examining how the agencies can coordinate the project and facilitate the required land acquisition and development. The standoff has stalled work on the ambitious project since June 23.A key issue is the compensation to be paid to locals whose land is required for the road. Officials said the road work can move forward only after the compensation-related matters are settled.“A preliminary meeting involving the stakeholders has already been held, and officials said a final meeting would be convened soon to work out the modalities for the road project. The govt is expected to assess the land requirements of each agency and determine the mechanism for executing the road project,“ an official said.Meanwhile, the Space Park project itself has not come to a complete halt. While construction of the main building is progressing, further development works involving the surrounding land and associated infrastructure have been put on hold.The Space Park is being developed as a major hub for companies and activities connected with the space and aerospace sector as part of the expansion of Technopark into Phase IV. The delay in developing supporting infrastructure, particularly road connectivity, has emerged as a major hurdle to taking the project forward on full scale. Spanning 15.06 acres in Pallippuram, the Space Park is being developed under the auspices of K-Space (Kerala Space Park), with major backing from Nabard.
