Kanpur: What began as a journey home after Raksha Bandhan ended in tragedy for a Madhya Pradesh family in Etawah on Sunday, when a speeding truck ploughed into their motorcycle near Bilampur turn under the Ekdil police station limits, killing two sisters and injuring three others, including a six-month-old infant.The victims, Nisha Kumari (26) and her younger sister Aashi (19), died on the spot in the crash. The injured were their brother Ayush Goyal, Nisha’s husband Neeraj Goyal (28), and her infant son Shivansh.Nisha and her family were on their way to the railway station to catch a train to Gwalior after celebrating Raksha Bandhan with Ayush when the accident occurred. From Gwalior, they were scheduled to travel to their home in Bhind.According to police, Neeraj was riding the motorcycle with four pillion passengers, in violation of traffic rules, when a speeding truck struck the two-wheeler on the highway. The force of the collision threw Nisha and Aashi onto the road, leaving them dead on the spot. The truck driver abandoned the vehicle and fled after the accident.Police teams rushed to the scene after receiving information about the crash and shifted the injured to a nearby hospital for treatment.While Ayush and Neeraj are undergoing treatment and are reported to be out of danger, Shivansh was discharged after being administered primary treatment.Etawah SSP Brijesh Kumar Srivastava said the bodies had been sent for postmortem examination and efforts were underway to trace and arrest the absconding truck driver.
