Jaisalmer: Police and Border Security Force (BSF) personnel Sunday foiled an attempt to smuggle heroin from Pakistan into Rajasthan via a drone drop near the international border in Sriganganagar. Police said the contraband was packed in four large packages containing 24 smaller packets of 500 grams each.Sriganganagar superintendent of police Harishankar Yadav said the operation was launched after the CID Border Intelligence agency tipped local police off about a large consignment of heroin from Pakistan being dropped by drone in the Karanpur area, with local smugglers moving in to collect it. Joint teams recovered the packets near the border village designated as 19 O (O).“As per instructions received from Pakistani smugglers, local contacts took delivery of the heroin dropped near the Indo-Pak border,” said Yadav.Police said two of the four detained suspects are residents of Punjab who had come to take delivery of the consignment. All four detainees are currently under interrogation. Along with the heroin, police recovered nine plastic radium sticks, which are used as short-term light sources. Yadav said the heroin was dropped “all at once” using a large quadcopter drone that crossed over from Pakistan. An extensive search operation remains ongoing in the area.
