Rain to decline in Lucknow

Lucknow: Bright sunshine on Sunday morning was clouded and humid conditions persisted throughout the day, making way finally for thunderstorm and rain by evening. Light showers were reported in some parts of the city during the morning too, providing brief relief but giving rise to humid conditions. IMD predicted decline in rainfall activity and high humidity in days to come.Alpart from drizzle, no significant rainfall was recorded at the Amausi (Lucknow) observatory till 8:30 pm, light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms was reported in the city and northern parts of Lucknow. Rainfall was recorded at 51.5 mm in Chinhat, 51 mm on Sitapur Road, 46.5 mm in Kakori development block, 41.5 mm in Sadar tehsil, 23 mm at Raj Bhavan and 22.5 mm at 1090 in Gomti Nagar.The maximum temperature in Lucknow was around 33 degrees Celsius, while the minimum remained close to 27 degrees Celsius. Humidity levels ranged between 75% and 97%, making conditions uncomfortable in several areas.According to the India Meteorological Department, maximum temperature is expected to remain around 32 degrees Celsius on Monday, while minimum is likely to be around 26 degrees Celsius. The weather office has forecast light to moderate rain in Lucknow and parts of central UP as monsoon becomes active over eastern parts of the state.The IMD has also forecast heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms in eastern Uttar Pradesh and Terai districts until Monday morning. Heavy rain is likely in parts of the Terai and southern districts of eastern UP, while rainfall activity is expected to remain lower in western parts of the state.Meteorologist at the Regional Meteorological Centre in Lucknow, Mohammad Danish, said westerly winds are expected to blow over UP after Monday. This is likely to lead to a gradual decline in monsoon activity and reduce the chances of heavy rain in western and central UP.“Eastern, southern and Terai districts are likely to receive good rainfall as the monsoon trough remains active around MP, Jharkhand and eastern UP,” Danish said.
