Kanpur: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday said that rain accompanied by thunderstorm is likely to lash Kanpur division over the next 24 hours.In its forecast issued on Thursday evening, the weather department said Kanpur Nagar, Kanpur Dehat, Unnao, Etawah, Auraiya and Farrukhabad are likely to witness rain and thunderstorms. With the monsoon remaining active, the entire division is expected to remain largely overcast, while a heavy-rain alert has also been issued for some areas.Kanpur Nagar and Kanpur Dehat are likely to remain under cloudy skies. Heavy rain or intense showers accompanied by thunderstorms may occur once or twice during the next 24 hours. Kanpur Nagar has already received 110.6 mm of rainfall in the past 48 hours, leaving the ground saturated. Waterlogging continues to affect several parts of the city, causing inconvenience to residents.On Thursday morning, bright sunshine appeared resulting in sultry weather conditions. Moderate to heavy showers began around noon and continued till about 1 pm, bringing temporary relief from the humidity. The city’s weather observatories recorded a maximum temperature of 32.4°C, around two degrees higher than Wednesday’s maximum. The minimum temperature also increased to 25.4°C.The maximum and minimum relative humidity were recorded at 94% and 97%, respectively, contributing to the uncomfortable and sultry conditions that prevailed until noon.However, weather expert SN Sunil Pandey said the possibility of rain in Kanpur on Friday morning is extremely low. According to the IMD and other major weather platforms, the sky is expected to remain partly cloudy during the morning, with no rain warning during those hours. There is, however, a possibility of light thundery showers during the afternoon, evening or night.
