Nagpur: The India Meteorological Department forecast rain and thunderstorms and issued a yellow alert for Nagpur on Tuesday, indicating the city can heave a sigh of relief from the scorching summer heat. However, the mercury is expected to shoot up again with a yellow heatwave alert for April 23 and 24. Overnight, temperatures dipped following light spells of rain in nearby districts, with Monday’s maximum dropping by around 2C as cool breezes, cloud cover and pre-monsoon activity kept the intense heat in check.According to IMD data for Vidarbha, Amravati recorded 43.4C, Akola 43.2C, Nagpur 42.4C and Wardha 42.5C, showing a marginal dip of 1-2 degrees across key districts. Chandrapur and Yavatmal remained above 41C, while Buldhana recorded a comparatively lower 40.5C. Minimum temperatures, however, stayed high, contributing to continued discomfort.Light rainfall was reported at isolated places in Chandrapur, Buldhana and Akola, while Wardha, Washim and Yavatmal also witnessed brief spells. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching 30-40kmph were recorded at isolated locations. IMD officials said such weather activity may continue intermittently, offering short-term relief before heatwave conditions return later this week.
