Srinagar, Sept 1: Jammu and Kashmir is likely to witness generally cloudy weather with light to moderate rain and thundershowers at many places over the next few days, with the Meteorological Centre Srinagar warning of brief intense showers that could trigger flash floods, mudslides and landslides in vulnerable areas.
According to the latest weather update issued by the Meteorological Centre Srinagar, several areas received significant rainfall during the past 24 hours. Kathua AWS recorded the highest rainfall at 73 mm, followed by Katra at 62 mm, Poonch at 38.5 mm and Udhampur at 27 mm.
For September 1 and 2, the MeT centre has forecast generally cloudy conditions with one or two spells of light to moderate rain or thundershowers at many places. Brief intense heavy showers are likely over parts of the Jammu division, particularly during the early morning and late afternoon/evening hours.
On September 3, weather is expected to remain generally dry, although brief showers may occur at a few places.
Rain and thundershowers are again expected at many places on September 4, with the possibility of brief intense showers.
From September 5 to 12, the weather is expected to remain generally dry, with brief spells of rain or thundershowers likely at isolated to scattered places, mainly during the early morning and afternoon/evening hours.
The weather department has issued an advisory for September 1-2, cautioning that brief but intense showers in localised areas may lead to flash floods, mudslides and landslides, particularly in vulnerable and hilly areas. Similar concerns have also been highlighted in recent weather advisories for J&K.
Meanwhile, the MeT centre said farmers may continue harvesting and other agricultural operations, while remaining mindful of changing local weather conditions
