Ranchi: Spells of light to moderate rain and thunderstorm might offer respite from the prevailing heatwave conditions across the state from May 28, the Ranchi office of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Monday.Abhishek Anand, the deputy director of IMD Ranchi, said, “Partly cloudy sky, with a possibility of light to moderate rain or thunderstorm is likely to occur over southern, north-eastern and adjoining central parts of Jharkhand on Thursday and Friday. Thereafter, the temperatures are expected to go down by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius.”As residents continued to reel under hot and sultry weather, the Met office on Tuesday said heatwave conditions will prevail in Garhwa, Palamu, Chatra and other northwestern parts of Jharkhand on Tuesday. However, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds with speed reaching up to 60 kilometres an hour are likely at isolated places over northeastern and adjoining central districts such as Dhanbad, Giridih, Bokaro, Hazaribag and Koderma.State capital Ranchi, along with Khunti, Gumla and Ramgarh districts, is likely to experience thunderstorms, lightning and gusty wind with speeds of up to 40-50 kmph likely at isolated places.Till Monday evening, isolated parts of the state received very light to light rainfall, with the highest amount of rain recorded in Pakuria in Pakur district (9.8 mm).Daltonganj sizzled at 44 degrees C while Ranchi recorded 39 degrees C on Monday.
