Prayagraj: A prolonged spell of cloudy skies, rain and cool winds kept Prayagraj under cool weather conditions for the third consecutive day on Saturday, with the maximum temperature settling at 27.6°C.The district recorded 11.6 mm of rainfall during the day, while relative humidity remained between 92% and 98%.The prevailing weather pattern, which began on Thursday, has been linked to the remnants of deep depression Arnab, which crossed the north Andhra Pradesh-south Odisha coast near Kalingapatnam on the intervening night of Sept 23 and 24 before moving inland. The system has continued to influence weather over eastern Uttar Pradesh, triggering widespread rainfall.Prayagraj has witnessed unusually cool conditions for late Sept, with only a marginal difference between day and night temperatures. On Thursday, the maximum and minimum temperatures were recorded at 26.8°C and 25.8°C, respectively. On Friday, they stood at 25.5°C and 25°C, while Saturday’s maximum temperature reached 27.6°C.Cloud cover persisted through the morning on Saturday before rainfall intensified in the afternoon. Cool winds, which started blowing on Thursday night, continued to add to the chill.According to the weather department, rain is likely to continue on Sunday, though conditions are expected to improve from the second half of the day as the weather system gradually weakens.The prolonged spell of rain and strong winds has also raised concerns among farmers, particularly as paddy crops are ready for harvest. In several areas, the crop has started lodging under the impact of rain and wind, increasing the risk of damage and delaying harvesting operations.
