Prayagraj: The number of vacancies reported so far for Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission’s (UPPSC) Combined State/Upper Subordinate Services Examination (PCS) 2026 has risen to 728, up from the 500 posts mentioned in the recruitment advertisement issued on June 25.With the preliminary examination scheduled for Dec 6, more vacancies are likely to be added.A record 8.90 lakh candidates have applied for the PCS 2026 examination. Under the commission’s rules, vacancies received up to the declaration of the preliminary examination result are included in the recruitment, leaving scope for the number of posts to increase further.Among the 728 vacancies reported so far, 158 are for principals in the secondary education department and 41 are for assistant district inspectors of schools, deputy secretary, UP Board, district inspectors of schools and equivalent posts. The basic education department has reported 122 vacancies for senior lecturers in District Institutes of Education and Training (DIET).The child development and nutrition department has reported 13 posts of district programme officer and 74 of child development project officer. Directorate of Training and Employment has 58 posts of assistant district employment assistance officer, while the urban development department has nine posts of accounts and finance officer and 26 of assistant municipal commissioner/executive officer, category-II.MSME and export promotion department has also reported 56 posts of assistant commissioner (industry), while the labour department has 16 posts of labour enforcement officer. Food Safety and Drug Administration has 17 food safety officer posts, and the excise department 14 excise inspector posts.The appointment department has reported 33 deputy collector posts. State Agricultural Produce Market Council has 28 secretary grade-II, seven accounts and adjustment officer and two marketing officer vacancies.Other reported vacancies include five in the finance department, eight administrator posts in secretariat administration department, 13 district social welfare officer and equivalent posts, seven district probation officer, four district supply officer, four district commandant, home guards, four assistant commissioner (Khadi and Village Industries) and two district panchayat raj officer posts.
