New Delhi: Chief minister Rekha Gupta on Sunday announced that the Railways has approved the widening of the existing railway overbridge (ROB) on Outer Ring Road at Haiderpur Badli to ease traffic congestion at Mukarba Chowk. She said the Railways has also cleared a proposed elevated loop connecting Shalimar Bagh with Sanjay Gandhi Transport Nagar, which will cross the railway tracks. The approvals followed technical scrutiny and sustained correspondence between the Delhi govt and Northern Railway.Gupta said the projects would help in the effort to transform the capital into a “Viksit Delhi”.“Delhi govt is committed to building a modern, safe and seamless transport network across the city,” she said, adding that the two north-west Delhi corridors have long faced heavy traffic, with thousands of commuters and goods vehicles using them daily. Once completed, the projects are expected to reduce congestion and improve travel time, safety and connectivity.According to Gupta, the Public Works Department (PWD) submitted drawings and technical proposals for both projects to the Railways. After scrutiny, the proposals were found technically feasible, and the Railways issued an in-principle no-objection certificate (NOC) with the approval of the divisional railway manager (DRM).She said the Railways has stipulated that construction must be carried out in line with prescribed safety norms and under technical supervision to ensure that railway operations and traffic are not affected.Gupta said Delhi govt is working to identify major traffic bottlenecks and put in place long-term solutions. She pointed out that Mukarba Chowk, Outer Ring Road and the Sanjay Gandhi Transport Nagar area are among the city’s busiest transport corridors. The projects, she said, will strengthen regional connectivity and provide relief to commuters.
