T’puram: A railway police officer on duty at Varkala railway station was allegedly attacked after confronting a group for verbally abusing passengers, prompting an intensive search for the accused, who fled the scene on a motorcycle on Wednesday.The incident occurred near the station’s cloak room when officer Ranjith questioned the group for allegedly using abusive language. According to the police, the confrontation quickly escalated, with the accused allegedly hurling abuses at the officer.Varkala Police said the situation worsened when the officer attempted to record the incident on his mobile phone. The accused allegedly tried to snatch the phone from him before escaping on a motorcycle.The police have identified the suspects as natives of Janardhanapuram in Varkala and have obtained the registration number of the motorcycle used in the escape.“The suspects have been identified, and teams are searching for them. They will be apprehended soon,” said probing officer Aravind.
