T’puram: Thiruvananthapuram and Missouri City in Texas have initiated preliminary discussions to establish a sister city partnership aimed at fostering cooperation in urban development, technology, governance and public services. The proposal was discussed during a meeting between city mayor V V Rajesh and Missouri City mayor Robin Elackatt in the United States.Missouri City, one of the fastest-growing municipalities in the Houston metropolitan region, is known for its planned urban development, modern infrastructure, quality public services and culturally diverse population. The city has witnessed significant growth in sectors such as healthcare, technology, education and commerce.The discussions focused on strengthening ties between the two cities through collaboration in infrastructure development, local governance, public service delivery, investment and trade opportunities, and community engagement.The two mayors also explored the possibility of cooperation in the field of artificial intelligence (AI), with the objective of promoting smart city initiatives, technology-driven governance, improved public service efficiency and innovation-led urban development. They discussed opportunities to facilitate knowledge exchange and attract investments in emerging technologies.Elackatt briefed the Thiruvananthapuram delegation on Missouri City’s achievements in waste management and recycling. He explained the city’s modern waste processing systems, recycling initiatives and urban sanitation programmes. Representatives of a waste management company and members of the city administration also participated in the discussions.During the visit, Rajesh toured the city’s animal shelters and reviewed measures adopted by Missouri City for the care, protection and management of stray animals.As part of the proposed collaboration, an official delegation from Missouri City is expected to visit Thiruvananthapuram in the coming months to exchange best practices in urban planning, technology, waste management and public administration.Rajesh also met Stafford mayor Ken Mathew during his US visit. Their discussions covered potential cooperation in city governance, infrastructure development, public services and urban planning.Speaking after the meetings, Rajesh said stronger engagement with leading American cities would help Thiruvananthapuram adopt global best practices in urban development while creating new opportunities for collaboration, investment and knowledge sharing.
