Rahul Gandhi interacts with students during the ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’ programme in Kota, Rajasthan

Prayagraj: Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi will address the final leg of his nationwide campaign, “Chhatron Ki Goonj”, at KP Ground in Prayagraj on Aug 8, focusing on issues concerning students and young job seekers. The event is expected to bring together students and competitive examination aspirants from Prayagraj, Kaushambi, Pratapgarh, Amethi, Rae Bareli, Bhadohi, Mirzapur, Varanasi and several other districts of Uttar Pradesh, state Congress general secretary Mukund Tiwari said. The campaign’s first phase was held in Kota on June 17, followed by the second phase in Dehradun on July 17. The final leg was initially scheduled to culminate in a massive rally in Delhi on Aug 9. However, after permission for the programme was reportedly denied, the party decided to shift the event to Prayagraj. Congress spokesperson Haseeb Ahmad said the programme would focus on unemployment, alleged irregularities in competitive examinations, question paper leaks, rising education costs, scholarship-related issues, the atmosphere on university campuses and the future prospects of the country’s youth. Uttar Pradesh Congress in-charge Rajendra Pal Gautam and state Congress president Ajay Rai are expected to visit Prayagraj on Sunday to review preparations for the event. Programme coordinator Vivekanand Pathak claimed that more than 1.5 lakh youths have registered for the programme. City Congress president Fuzail Hashmi said party workers and office-bearers had been assigned responsibilities to ensure the event’s success.
