Aizawl: Mizoram Police on Friday seized 72.514kg of methamphetamine, worth over Rs 58.01 crore, from a truck at Keifang in Saitual district, in one of the largest drug hauls in the state.Police intercepted the Kolasib-registered truck around 4.30am. The consignment was allegedly being transported from Manipur to Assam, via Mizoram, IGP (headquarters) and state police chief public relations officer H Ramthlengliana said on Saturday.While the unidentified driver fled into a nearby jungle and evaded arrest, two passengers — Kaidul Islam Laskar, 21, and Rafik Uddin Barbhuiya, 32 — both from Pakua Punji Bhaibonti in Assam’s Hailakandi district — were detained.“A thorough search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 61 bundles of suspected methamphetamine, tactically concealed inside a cavity above the driver’s cabin. The seized contraband weighed 72.514 kg and has an estimated illicit market value of Rs. 58.01 crore. All legal formalities relating to the seizure were completed at the spot,” Ramthlengliana said.The investigation led police to Vanlallawmi, 39, a resident of Bairabi in Kolasib district, who was subsequently arrested.A case has been registered at Saitual police station under Sections 22(c), 25 and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.
