Gurgaon: Residents of Sector 40 have flagged recurrent sewage overflow in parts of the sector, despite complaints to the civic body. They claim temporary measures, including deploying a suction machine, have failed to resolve the issue, leaving several streets waterlogged with foul-smelling sewage.Abhimanyu Yadav, president of the Sector 40 RWA, said residents have been struggling with the issue for nearly a month. “The sewer has been overflowing continuously for over three weeks. We have repeatedly informed MCG officials but there has been no permanent solution,” he said. “The super sucker machine was operated only briefly and the overflow resumed soon after. It did not address the root cause,” Yadav added.According to the RWA, the problem is a result of inadequate desilting of the sewer network. Residents alleged that although a contractor was engaged around four months ago for cleaning the sewer lines, the work was not carried out properly.“The sewer lines require proper bucket-machine desilting to remove accumulated silt and debris. This should ideally be done every one or two years, but it has not happened. Only superficial cleaning was carried out, because of which sludge remains inside the sewer,” Yadav alleged.Apart from the MCG commissioner, residents said they submitted written complaints to a local councillor and other officials on multiple occasions. However, they claimed departments continue to pass responsibility to other agencies, with MCG citing GMDA-operated master sewer lines as choked while the metropolitan authority insists the affected sewer network falls under MCG’s jurisdiction.Virender Yadav, joint secretary of the Sector 40 RWA, said, “People are forced to walk through sewage water every day. We need a permanent solution instead of a temporary arrangement.”Meanwhile, a senior MCG official said, “I will get the matter checked and prompt action will be taken.”
