Jaipur: An association of private education institutes has sent a letter to chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, warning of a boycott of the upcoming civic body elections due to outstanding payments for Right to Education (RTE) admissions.It highlighted that the payments for RTE students in private schools have been delayed since the last financial year and is demanding immediate resolution of the dues.The association Swayamsevi Shikshan Sanstha Sangh, which has around 20,000 schools associated with it across the state, in its letter stated that despite private educational institutions submitting their claim forms on June 18, payments have not been released yet.“…although private educational institutions submitted their claim forms to the education department on June 18, not a single institution in Rajasthan has received payment to date—despite the established norm that payment should be ensured within one week of submission. Despite the institutions submitting multiple memoranda to the education minister and the education secretary regarding this matter, their grievances remain unaddressed, even though the funds have already been sanctioned by the central govt. The education department continues to withhold payment by citing various pretexts,” states the letter.L C Bhartiya, president of the association, said, “The state govt has not released funds on time for the past two years stating that they do not have a budget. It almost seems like the govt wants us to teach students for free without considering the costs of private schools. When we raise this issue either with the minister or senior officials from the department, we get the same response.”For 2026-27, the demand amount is Rs 1,353.86 crore, and the approved budget is Rs 1,250 crore, as per the records of the elementary education department. But the whole amount is yet to be released. In 2025-26, the demand was Rs 2,018.23 crore, and the approved budget was Rs 1,030 crore, of which Rs 996.04 crore was released.
