Jaipur: A 50-year-old man posing as a transgender person was arrested by Bajaj Nagar police for stealing jewellery from a shop in Jaipur, with police recovering the stolen gold items from his possession. The accused, identified as Raju alias Pooja Kinnar, allegedly visited a jewellery shop in Bajaj Nagar on Aug 19 with a woman and asked the jeweller to show him 11 pairs of anklets, two pairs of earrings and a gold ring.Police said Raju told jeweller Ramraj Goyal (60) that he would return with cash to make the payment and left with the woman. When Goyal checked the jewellery, he found a pair of earrings and a gold ring missing. Goyal, a resident of Siddharth Nagar, lodged a complaint at Bajaj Nagar police station on Aug 31. During the investigation, constables Ramavatar and Mahendra examined CCTV footage and used technical surveillance and informers to identify Raju, police said.Police said the constables were surprised to find Raju posing as a transgender when they reached his hideout. He allegedly tried to mislead them during questioning before being arrested.During preliminary questioning, Raju confessed to several similar thefts, police said. He would dress and present himself as a transgender before visiting jewellery shops, where he allegedly engaged shopkeepers in conversation, identified valuable items and stole them. Investigators are probing his alleged involvement in other thefts as well.A case was registered under Section 305(A) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, police said.
