Bhilwara: On Thursday, which was the last day to withdraw nominations for the Bhilwara urban local body elections, national party candidates were reportedly busy trying to persuade, pressure, and buy off independent candidates. One such case from Ward No. 49 of the Bhilwara Municipal Corporation came to the fore. Rohit Kumar Sain, who filed as an independent after not getting a BJP ticket from Ward No. 49, was allegedly offered Rs 1 lakh to withdraw his nomination. Sain reported the matter at Bhimganj police station Thursday afternoon, and Rs 1 lakh was seized from his house.Sain, in the report, stated that BJP candidate Amit Kumar Saraswat had been pressuring him for 4–5 days to withdraw. On Thursday around 7:30 am, Saraswat visited Sain at home and spoke to him for about an hour. Sain told Saraswat that he would consult his team and then respond. Later, when Sain was not at home, Saraswat allegedly returned and left Rs 1 lakh on a table. According to Sain, Saraswat called him up and told him about the money left at the house, to which Sain replied that he had not asked for money, after which the call was disconnected.Sain also claimed he was informed about a video being made while the money was placed at his house. He said he reported the matter to police and demanded an impartial investigation so that no one can accuse him of withdrawing his name after taking money.Bhimganj police station in charge Sunil Chaudhary said the police are investigating all angles including CCTV footage and will take action as per rules.
