Pune: Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis said Pune is leading the state in attracting global capability centres (GCCs) or captive technology centres of multinational companies as the govt is expecting an investment of 400 new GCC units. “The Maharashtra Global Capability Centre (GCC) Policy, 2025, has been preparedand through this policy, 400 new GCC units will be established in the state with the goal of creating 4 lakh high-skill job opportunities,” he said in his budget speech.

Industry estimates suggest that there are over 360 GCCs operating in Pune which are focused onengineering and product development companies aided by a strong base of IT and manufacturing. Mumbai and Pune put together, the state has 720 GCC units already operating. Nationally, Bengaluru leads in GCCs with 875 units followed by Delhi at 465 GCCs. Maharashtra policy on GCCs also lays stress onfacilitating the expansion of GCC clusters into Nashik, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and Nagpur. Pune is already an established GCC hub with strong banking and financial services, technology, and automotive presence. The city offers advantages such as affordable costs, low attrition and top-tier talent from premium educational institutes, IT industry body Nasscom said in a report.Some of thekey GCC players in Pune include Barclays, HSBC, TCS, Infosys, Cummins, John Dheere, Amdocs, UBS, Vodafone, BP, Fiserv, Dassault andWhirlpool.The city also has affordable infrastructure in the form of Grade-A offices. Several market reports indicate that GCCs are the prime movers of commercial real estate in the city. “The city offers a strong combination of modern office infrastructure, a well-established IT–ITES base, and a mature engineering and manufacturing ecosystem. Proximity to Mumbai and improved access through the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport further enhance Pune’s appeal for global enterprises,” Moinuddin Patel, Pune MD of Cushman & Wakefield said.
