Pune: After reviewing festive preparations, mayor Manjusha Nagpure and corporators from the city’s central areas have asked officials to ensure uninterrupted water and power supply during Ganeshotsav. She has also directed officials to initiate steps alongside police to manage the movement of devotees.Waste management and road maintenance will also get a special focus this Ganeshotsav, set to begin on Monday, with additional personnel deployed for garbage collection in all 15 wards. For the city’s central areas, where footfall goes up significantly during the 10 days, 100 additional staffers will be on duty to clear the waste, the civic administration has said.It added that cleanliness staff will work in two shifts, additional vehicles will be deployed to transport collected waste, and temporary vendors and foot stalls must provide dustbins. Officials appealed to people not to litter in open spaces, adding that efforts have been stepped up given the return of rain spells during the festive days.District guardian minister Sunetra Pawar has instructed PMC (Pune Municipal Corporation), PCMC (Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation) and district officials to closely monitor traffic, arrange alternate roads, and prioritise the safety of women, children and senior citizens.Road repair and maintenance work is already being carried out, particularly over the last two weeks with key focus on prime city areas like near metro stations, and will continye even during the festival, the administration said.Further, it said CCTV surveillance systems are being installed at key chowks and immersion ghats. Ninety lifeguards will be placed at 15 such ghats, and makeshift tanks will be available there. Plans to set up 45 idol and nirmalya collection centres are also underway.
