Pune: The Pune district administration has imposed prohibitory orders and tightened safety measures at 10 popular tourist destinations in the Maval and Lonavla areas until Aug 31 to prevent monsoon-related accidents.The locations include the Karla and Bhaje caves, Lohagad and Visapur forts, Lion’s Point, Shivling Point, Tung and Tikona forts, and areas around the Pavana dam.These destinations witness a heavy influx of tourists during the monsoon. As part of the restrictions, visitors will be prohibited from entering deep water, sitting beneath waterfalls, taking selfies on cliffs or at other risky locations, and engaging in any activity that could endanger their lives. Officials said surveillance and monitoring have been intensified at all the sites.Tourists have also been directed not to play loud music or indulge in activities that cause noise or water pollution. The administration has appealed to visitors not to drive vehicles into water bodies or attempt dangerous stunts that put lives at risk.The restrictions have been imposed under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023. Any individual or group found violating the orders will face legal action.Local residents have welcomed the administration’s decision, saying it will help prevent accidents during the monsoon. They pointed out that despite warning boards installed at several locations, many tourists ignore safety instructions and venture into hazardous areas. They urged visitors to avoid risky spots and refrain from taking unnecessary risks.Meanwhile, the administration has also temporarily closed the Dudhivare Khind road, which connects Pavana in Maval with Lonavla, to facilitate the installation of protective safety nets. Officials said alternate routes have been opened for commuters travelling between Pune and Pavana or between Lonavala and Pavana.
