Patna: The vigilance investigation bureau (VIB) on Saturday arrested a private employee, working at Adapur police station in East Champaran district, for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 14,000 for processing a firearm licence application. The arrested staff has been identified as Intekab Alam, who was working as a private clerk at the police station.According to VIB officials, Alam was demanding money in the name of getting the arms licence application verified by the station house officer (SHO). In a statement, the VIB said Aftab Ansari, a resident of Bakhri village under the Adapur police station area, lodged a complaint at the bureau’s headquarters in Patna, alleging that Alam had demanded a bribe for the verification of his firearm licence application.The complaint was subsequently verified by the bureau, during which evidence supporting the bribe demand was found. After the allegations were found to be prima facie true, a case was registered and a raiding team was formed under the supervision of Gautam Krishna, deputy superintendent of police (DSP), VIB, Patna.The raiding team arrested Alam red-handed from Jamunapur Chowk under the Adapur police station limits while he was allegedly accepting the bribe amount. The accused will be produced before the special VIB court in Muzaffarpur after interrogation. Further investigation is underway, officials said.
