PATNA: Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar has begun shifting his belongings from the official residence at 1 Anne Marg to his new residence at 7 Circular Road in Patna.Household goods were being moved out of the CM’s residence on tractors on Saturday. The development comes a day after Kumar took oath as a member of the Rajya Sabha in a brief ceremony at Parliament House in New Delhi.The oath was administered by Rajya Sabha Chairman C P Radhakrishnan in his chamber. According to the Vice-President’s office, “Vice President of India and Chairman, Rajya Sabha, Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan, administered the oath to Shri Nitish Kumar as an elected Member of Rajya Sabha, from Bihar, at Parliament House today,” Several senior leaders were present during the ceremony, including Union ministers J P Nadda, Nirmala Sitharaman, Rajiv Ranjan Singh, Ram Nath Thakur and Arjun Ram Meghwal. Bihar deputy chief minister Samrat Chaudhary was also in attendance. JD(U) leader and party working president Sanjay Kumar Jha, Congress chief whip in Rajya Sabha Jairam Ramesh, BJP MP Rajiv Pratap Rudy and BJP chief whip in Lok Sabha Sanjay Jaiswal were among those present. After taking oath, Kumar stepped out of the new Parliament building and reflected on his earlier tenure in the Lok Sabha and his time in the old Parliament House. Kumar was elected to the Rajya Sabha on March 16 and later resigned from the Bihar Legislative Council. He had to vacate the council seat within 14 days of his election to the Upper House. He is expected to formally resign as chief minister soon, with the NDA likely to choose a new Bihar chief minister on April 14, according to news agency PTI.
