Prayagraj: A 23-year-old woman from Uttar Pradesh’s Pratapgarh was injured after being allegedly attacked with a kitchen knife by two co-passengers between Jabalpur and Bhusawal railway stations on the Saket Express late Saturday. The woman, identified as Ashma (23) from Pratapgarh, was admitted to Dufferin Hospital in Prayagraj after the train reached Prayagraj Junction. The four months pregnant woman suffered minor injuries on her neck and abdomen and is now stable. The GRP (Prayagraj) has transferred the case to Jabalpur GRP for further investigation. Station house officer (GRP) AK Singh told TOI that the incident took place near Jabalpur railway station when the victim was allegedly attacked by two women over a petty dispute. He added that Jabalpur GRP attended the case, but the family members insisted on continuing their journey to Prayagraj as they belonged to Pratapgarh. According to reports, Ashma, her husband Hameed, and their minor son boarded the Saket Express in Mumbai on Saturday, struggling to find space in the crowded bogie. They managed to get seats, but their relief was short-lived. As the train journeyed between Bhusawal and Jabalpur, a petty dispute with a co-passenger escalated into a heated argument. Things took a violent turn when two women, accompanied by two others, allegedly attacked Ashma, beating her up and stabbing her with a sharp object, leaving her injured. The GRP SHO said that two co-passengers from Sultanpur and Ambedkar Nagar were issued challans following the complaint. He noted that the Jabalpur GRP had initially handled the case at Jabalpur railway station, but the family wanted to proceed to Prayagraj. A zero FIR was registered, and the case was transferred to Jabalpur GRP for further investigation. The Saket Express pulled into Prayagraj station early Sunday, where Hameed alerted his family in Pratapgarh. They rushed to the station and took Asma to Dufferin Hospital for treatment. When contacted, GRP Jabalpur police station incharge, Sanjeevani Rajput, said, “We are yet to receive the case diary.” Additional SP, GRP, Jabalpur, Bhawna Marawi, also said the same thing.
