Prayagraj: Modernising the management of govt-run cow shelters, the animal husbandry department has installed advanced digital surveillance systems at many shelters in Prayagraj division. The initiative is part of a state-backed programme to enhance transparency, accountability, and infrastructure in cattle care facilities across the state.As a part of the project, CCTV cameras have been installed at shelters in Prayagraj, Fatehpur, and Pratapgarh districts, while work is in its final stage in Kaushambi. A centralised monitoring control room at Vikas Bhawan in Prayagraj will help the authorities supervise operations in real time.
The chief veterinary officer (CVO), Prayagraj district, Dr S N Singh, said that the district alone has 121 shelters equipped with surveillance systems, enabling round-the-clock monitoring of around 24,000 cows. These cameras, equipped with night-vision technology, ensure uninterrupted observation, and the system’s coverage extends to previously unmonitored areas including cattle sheds, feeding zones, and treatment facilities.The digital control rooms are now operational in the three districts, said the deputy director (Grade-II), Animal Husbandry, Dr Anil Kumar, adding that monitoring of 63 shelters in Fatehpur, 64 in Pratapgarh, and 76 in Kaushambi will be possible once installations at remaining shelters are completed. UP has 6,718 rural cow shelters across 75 districts. In the first phase of this digital programme, 4,336 shelters in 65 districts will be equipped with modern monitoring systems. , marking a major step towards systematic, technology-driven governance of cattle care facilities across the state.
