Prayagraj: The district reeled under an intensified heatwave on Tuesday, with the mercury soaring to a blistering 45.8°C, making it the fourth-hottest city in Uttar Pradesh after Banda, Jhansi, and Agra Taj.The minimum temperature settled at 28.2°C, while searing hot winds and relentless sunshine turned daily life into an ordeal, leaving residents grappling with extreme discomfort throughout the day.Prayagraj continued to experience severe heatwave-like conditions for the second consecutive day, despite the maximum temperature falling by 1 degree. The high temperature has once again disrupted normal life across the Sangam City, with roads and markets looking deserted during the afternoon hours. From early morning itself, the blazing sun and dry winds troubled residents, while the heat became unbearable by noon. Between afternoon and evening, most busy localities, including Chowk, Civil Lines, Rambagh, Tagore Town, Teliarganj, Alopibagh and Bairahana, saw thin movement of people as residents avoided stepping out unless necessary.Even during the night, warm winds continued to prevail, providing little relief despite the use of coolers and fans. Weather experts said the absence of moisture and continuous dry western winds are contributing to the rapid rise in temperatures across the region. The prolonged spell of extreme heat has also impacted animals and birds, many of which were seen struggling for water under the blazing sun. Doctors have advised people to avoid direct exposure during peak afternoon hours, remain hydrated and take precautions against heatstroke.Meteorological officials have warned that heatwave conditions are likely to continue over the next few days, with temperatures expected to remain significantly above normal in Prayagraj and surrounding districts.
