Patna: Hundreds of serving and retired teachers of Patliputra University (PPU) staged demonstrations outside the university headquarters and several constituent colleges in the state capital on Wednesday, pressing for the fulfilment of their long-pending demands related to salary and pension disbursement.The protesting teachers demanded that salaries and pensions be released regularly every month without delay. The inordinate delay in the payment of salaries and pensions is causing severe financial hardship to both serving and retired teachers, PPU Teachers’ Association president A K Singh Thakur said. The association also sought the immediate clearance of all pending retirement benefits on a priority basis.During the demonstration, a delegation of teachers submitted a memorandum to PPU vice-chancellor Upendra Prasad Singh, urging his intervention to resolve the issues at the earliest. The memorandum highlighted the difficulties faced particularly by retired teachers, many of whom, it said, were struggling to manage daily expenses due to delays in pension payments and arrears.The demonstration witnessed participation from a large number of faculty members representing different colleges under the university’s jurisdiction, reflecting widespread discontent among teachers. Prominent leaders who spearheaded the agitation included PPU Teachers’ Association president A K Singh Thakur, working president Mithilesh Kumar Tiwary and general secretary H N Singh, along with other office-bearers and members of the association.The association warned that if its demands were not addressed within a stipulated timeframe, the agitation could be intensified in the coming days, including broader protests across constituent and affiliated colleges. Thakur said the protest was aimed at drawing the university administration’s attention to the financial grievances of teachers.
