Jaipur: Two alleged arms smugglers who police said had been supplying illegal weapons in city for nearly three years while posing as daily-wage labourers were arrested on Saturday. Police recovered two pistols, three magazines and five cartridges from the accused, who allegedly sourced weapons from Madhya Pradesh and sold them in Jaipur for a profit of Rs 10,000-15,000 per weapon.The accused were identified as Dharmendra alias Kulwinder alias Kuldeep alias Ajay Gurjar, 24, and Somitra Lodhi, 26, both residents of Bhind-Morena in Madhya Pradesh. They had been living in a rented house in Maa Durga Vihar-5 in Khora Bisal.DCP (West) Prashant Kiran said police received information that the duo had arrived in Khora Bisal with a consignment of illegal weapons to sell in Jaipur. A DST team led by its in charge Ganesh Saini laid a trap and surrounded the area before arresting them on Saturday evening. The accused were later handed over to Khora Bisal police.Investigators found that the duo allegedly maintained a low profile by working as daily-wage labourers while running the arms supply operation. Police said Somitra would travel to Madhya Pradesh to procure weapons on Dharmendra’s instructions when they received orders from buyers in Jaipur.The weapons were allegedly brought to Jaipur and sold at a margin of Rs 10,000-15,000 each. Police said the accused admitted during interrogation to having supplied a sizeable number of illegal weapons in the city.City police are questioning the accused to identify their suppliers and buyers and determine the scale of the alleged network. Further recoveries are likely, police said.
