Guwahati: In poll bound Assam 200 companies of Central Paramilitary forces have arrived. Assam which is going to single phase assembly polls on April 9 is expected to get more companies of Central Paramilitary forces.

The Election Commission has appointed Retired IAS officer of the 1988 batch, Manjeet Singh, as Special Observer for the General Election to the Legislative Assembly of Assam.

The ECI stated Singh will be required to visit Assam from time to time to observe the poll preparedness and the conduct of the General Election to the Legislative Assemblies of Assam and give his inputs for necessary action. Singh will visit Assam in coordination with the CEO of Assam.

The Commission also sought from the chief secretary list of IAS officers’ batch 2010 to 2021, for consideration of the Commission for their deployment as DEO. The commission has posted Somalin Shubhdarshini as Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) in Majuli, R Sheetal Kumar as SSP of South Salmara, Anchal Chauhan as SSP Sadiya, Sudhakar Singh in Chirang and Mohan Lal Meena in Dhemaji.

The ECI has asked the orders to be implemented with immediate effect and a compliance report in respect of joining of above officers be sent by 11 AM on March 17.

There has been a net addition of around 64,000 voters during this period, with about 1,64,000 additions and around one lakh deletions,” he said.

Assam will go to the polls on April 9. Goel said that already 200 companies of CAPF are there and are deployed. “We will get more CAPF companies in coming days.”

The ECI has transferred and posted DEOs in the five districts.
