Kolkata: Some 2,200-2,300 companies of central forces will be deployed in every phase in West Bengal, chief electoral officer Manoj Kumar Agarwal said on Monday. The adjudication-related supplementary list is likely to come next week.
“We will fix accountability of the law enforcement agencies and all others, including election officials, to ensure violence-free and fair polls,” he said. ECI has sought police station-wise reports from all DEOs on illegal weapons, history-sheeters and any other crime-related information. After receiving the reports, ECI will review the situation and decide on the further course of action.

“CAPF will not accept any hospitality from anyone during their deployment, nor will they be compromised,” the CEO said, adding that, if otherwise, stringent action will be taken against them. Earlier, such instances had come to the notice of ECI, and CAPF officials involved were punished, with some even jailed.
