Salem: A police vehicle overturned after its brakes failed during an illicit liquor raid near Gundur in Yercaud on Thursday. As many as 18 police and forest personnel suffered minor injuries in the incident.The mishap took place when a team led by prohibition enforcement wing (PEW) inspector Ananda Nayaki were travelling to Gundur in a tempo traveller, following a tip-off on illegal liquor distillation in nearby forests.“Constable Sudhakar, 48, who was driving the vehicle, lost control after the brakes failed, causing the vehicle to overturn on the hill road,” said a police officer from Yercaud station.Meanwhile, PEW DIG Moorthy visited the accident site and later met the injured personnel at the Salem government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College and Hospital.Yercaud police have initiated a detailed inquiry into the accident.
