Thiruvananthapuram: A police team from the Adoor station that went to arrest an accused in an attempt-to-murder case was attacked by a four-member group, including three women, in Karunagappally on Saturday night. SI Jinu, who is attached to the DSP squad, suffered grievous injuries in the attack.The police arrested Rejin, 26, of Shuranad, Reshma, 26, Ramya, 30, of Panmana and Harsha, 25, of Alappad in connection with the incident. The accused have been booked for allegedly obstructing police officers from discharging their duties and for assaulting the police personnel.According to the police, the team reached the location after receiving information that Rejin, an accused in an attempt-to-murder case, was staying at Karunagappally in Kollam. Jerin and three women were present at the house when the police team arrived.The officers identified themselves as police personnel and informed them that they had come to arrest Jerin. The officers said the group hit them on their heads with a brick. The women allegedly assaulted the officers by punching and biting them.Following the attack, additional police personnel were called to the spot. The four persons were subsequently taken into custody.Civil police officer Abhilash suffered injuries to his head and nose.The arrests were made by a team led by Karunagappally CI G Gopakumar, with SIs Anilkumar and Pradeep, ASI Sreekala and civil police officer Bindu.However, women seen in a video of the incident have alleged that police personnel assaulted one of them during the operation. The police have not commented on the allegation.
