Bikes loaded with mahua liquor seized

Gaya: Police seized 23 motorcycles and around 3,800 litres of mahua liquor during raids conducted under the Fatehpur, Tankuppa, Wazirganj and Imamganj police station areas in Gaya on Friday evening.Senior superintendent of police Sushil Kumar said the biggest haul was made in the Fatehpur police station area, where 21 motorcycles and about 3,500 litres of mahua liquor were seized. One motorcycle each was also recovered from the Tankuppa and Wazirganj police station areas.A suspected liquor smuggler, Ajay Kumar, was arrested by Wazirganj police. “Further raids are underway to arrest other members of the smuggling network,” the SSP said.Police said the major recovery was made during a raid at Halmata village under Fatehpur police station. Suspected smugglers abandoned the motorcycles and fled after sensing the approaching police team.According to officials, most of the recovered motorcycles are suspected to be stolen and were being used to transport liquor from neighbouring Jharkhand into Gaya district. Police are verifying the ownership of the vehicles on the basis of their registration numbers.The seized liquor and motorcycles have been taken into custody, and efforts are on to identify and arrest the absconding smugglers. Police said the crackdown forms part of an ongoing drive against illegal liquor trade in the district.
