In view of the prevailing situation, Police in central Kashmir on Sunday issued a joint advisory urging media houses, journalists, social media users, digital platforms and the general public to exercise utmost responsibility while reporting or sharing information.
According to the advisory issued by Budgam Police and Ganderbal Police, all stakeholders have been asked to verify any information related to law and order or public gatherings through official and credible sources before publication or broadcast.
Police cautioned that circulation of rumours, unverified reports or speculative content can create unnecessary panic and disturb public peace and order. The media fraternity has been specifically requested to refrain from sensationalism and rely strictly on official updates for accurate and responsible dissemination of information.
The advisory further warned that any individual or platform found involved in spreading misinformation or rumours will face strict legal action as per law.
Emphasising that responsible reporting and information sharing are essential for maintaining peace and harmony, police urged citizens to cooperate with authorities and play a positive role in safeguarding public order and stability in the region.
