Hyderabad: Jubilee Hills police have registered a dowry harassment case against a Kazipet native and four of his family members following a complaint by a 25-year-old govt employee, the daughter of a retired IPS officer.According to the complaint, S Moksha married G Karthik on Oct 26, 2024, after he was introduced through a Hanumakonda-based marriage bureau as an MS graduate working as a software engineer in Australia.Moksha alleged that before the wedding, Karthik’s family demanded ₹30 lakh as dowry and insisted that her father bear the entire cost of the marriage. “Despite repeated requests, Karthik’s family failed to produce any documents verifying his educational qualifications or employment,” the complainant claimed.Karthik returned to Australia alone in Dec 2024, while Moksha joined the Telangana govt service the same month after clearing the TGPSC Group-IV examination. She alleged that her in-laws became hostile because she could not visit them frequently due to work and refused to hand over her salary. She also accused them of attempting to pawn her wedding jewellery without her knowledge.According to the complainant, Karthik returned to India permanently in July 2025 but failed to secure employment. Moksha further alleged that he attempted to assault her at her residence in Venkatagiri later that year.“I repeatedly requested him to show his academic degrees and employment details, but he consistently refused and threatened me with divorce. During a family meeting convened by her father in Hanumakonda, Karthik allegedly admitted that he had neither completed an MS degree nor disclosed the truth about his qualifications and employment before the marriage,” the complainant claimed.Based on the complaint, Jubilee Hills police have registered a case against Karthik and four of his family members under sections 85 (subjecting a married woman to cruelty) and 318(4) (cheating) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with provisions of the Dowry Prohibition Act, on Friday.“We are verifying the allegations and collecting evidence,” Jubilee Hills inspector M Muthu Yadav said.
