Thiruvananthapuram: Police have arrested two persons and detained a minor boy in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a Class IX student in Mannanthala.The accused are Adil and Jarib, both 19 and of Mannanthala. Both were produced in court, which remanded them in judicial custody. As the third accused is a minor, he was produced before the Juvenile Justice Board and legal proceedings against him are under way, police said.The incident took place in Jan after the girl became acquainted with one of the accused through social media. The suspect allegedly professed love for the girl and lured her to a house at Mannanthala under false pretences, said police.The accused then took the girl to a house where two of his accomplices were present. The three allegedly sexually assaulted her at the house, police said.The girl didn’t disclose the incident to anyone immediately, reportedly due to fear. The incident came to light two days ago when teachers at school noticed signs of distress in the girl. During a counselling session, she allegedly disclosed the assault to the teachers and counsellors.Subsequently, the school authorities informed her family and a police complaint was lodged. Police registered a case and apprehended the three accused on Thursday night. Formal arrest of the two accused and the minor’s detention were recorded on Friday.
