Guwahati: Officers from Basistha police station on Thursday arrested a gang of alleged dacoits, foiling a suspected dacoity attempt in Guwahati. Police said the gang had been operating across multiple districts in Assam.According to officer-in-charge Kapil Pathak, the arrested individuals have been identified as Bipul Ali, Ramjan Ali, Piru Ali, Gaji Ali, Nasir Ali, Asadur Rahman, Sahidur Ali, Abdul Basti, Mukta Hussain, and Mohammad Ali Sahil. He said the accused were apprehended from Guwahati’s Khanapara and Sijubari areas.“We had received information that a gang was operating in the city. Based on the input, we first conducted a raid in the Khanapara area and later carried out another raid at a lodge in the Sijubari locality. These are all hardcore criminals,” Pathak said.Police said the gang was allegedly involved in breaking into godowns, stealing telecom tower-related equipments, and carrying out other thefts. During the operation, police recovered an air gun, a Radio Remote Unit (RRU), two four-wheelers, two motorcycles, and several tools allegedly used in criminal activities.“They have been produced before the court, and a case has been registered against them under the BNS Act. The gang did not operate with any fixed targets; they committed robberies and thefts whenever opportunities arose,” Pathak added.The OC further said investigation was on to trace and arrest other members, who are believed to be linked to the gang.
