Times News NetworkKanpur: Police arrested an absconding criminal after an encounter in the Chakeri police station area of the city late Tuesday night.Police said the miscreant opened fire but no one was injured. They said they cordoned off the area, arrested the accused and questioned him in custody.The accused was absconding and continuously evading the police. On Tuesday night, police traced his mobile location near Uttam ITI in Sanigawan, following which the Chakeri police team laid a cordon at the spot. When they tried to stop him, the accused attempted to flee at high speed on his Bullet bike, the police said.While fleeing, the accused lost balance and his Bullet motorcycle fell into a pit on the roadside. When the policemen moved forward to nab him, the miscreant, seeing himself surrounded, fired two rounds at the police team. One bullet passed extremely close to a constable and he had a narrow escape, police said, adding that the firing created chaos at the spot.Police said the team did not retreat and the personnel immediately surrounded the accused from all sides, overpowered him on the spot and took him into custody. After the incident, a heavy police force was deployed in the entire area and the spot was inspected.ACP (Chakeri) Ashutosh Kumar Singh said that an incident of firing at the police had taken place, but no policeman or any other person was injured in it. A constable had a narrow escape. The accused Yash Rajput is being questioned in custody and his criminal history is also being investigated.Police said they were trying to find out where the accused got the weapon from and in which other cases he was wanted. They said that after questioning the accused, information was also being gathered about his network and other associates
